Renowned for its artistic excellence, remarkable versatility of musical styles and adventurous programming, the St. Augustine Music Festival Chamber Orchestra has been praised by guest soloists and audience alike since its inception. SAMFCO primarily plays camerata style, where the musicians play conductorless and standing.
Coming up on it’s 13thseason in June, the orchestra has performed most of the repertoire written for string orchestra, from baroque to contemporary music as well as many other symphonic chamber orchestra pieces. The orchestra has also performed several world premiers of commissioned works, including the St. Augustine Suite by Piotr Szewczyk in 2015 that was recorded for the 450th anniversary of the city of St. Augustine.
The Orchestra is one of the few chamber ensembles in the United States to have been featured on NPR’s Performance Today on multiple occasions.
On behalf of the St. Augustine Music Festival, SAMFCO strives to carry out the mission: Entertain, Educate and Elevate Through Music,to broader and diverse audiences.
