Outstanding Young Pianist Competition

This is Friday Musicale’s annual Outstanding Young Pianist Competition and Concert showcasing Jacksonville’s immense piano talent. Students from around the First Coast are nominated by their piano teachers to audition for a performance slot on the recital.
The six categories are:
I. Grades 5 and 6, Piano Solo.
II. Grades 7 and 8, Piano Solo.
III. Grades 9 and 10, Piano Solo.
IV. Grades 9 through 12, Piano or Chamber Ensemble
V. Grades 11 and 12, Piano Solo.
VI. Grades 11 and 12, Concerto.
Students in grades 9 through 12 may only enter in one category. Students may not win two consecutive years in the same category.
Solo repertoire must consist of two contrasting original piano compositions and must not exceed 15 minutes in length. A movement from a sonata shall be counted as one piece. Memorization is required.
Ensemble repertoire should be only one piece and may include duets, duo piano, or quartets. Memorization is not required for ensembles.
Concerto repertoire consists of a movement from a major work for piano and orchestra and may be accompanied by the student’s teacher or another adult. Memorization is required.
Each pianist will be given a specific time to audition and must bring his or her music (two published copies) with measures numbered for the judges. There is no charge for auditions or admittance to the performance.
