JB Scott’s Swingin’ Allstars
This top shelf group of pros is dedicated to playing Chicago Swing/New Orleans style Jazz in a highly musical, entertaining and spirited fashion. The group is co-led by the flamboyant virtuoso trumpeter, JB Scott, former musical director of the world-famous Dukes of Dixieland, and Downbeat award-winning jazz vocalist Lisa Kelly, well-known for her rich, smooth tone and swinging delivery of lyric. Featured on his unique story telling vocal stylings is versatile banjo/guitarist Ken Calhoun and rounding out the ‘all star’ cast are legendary musicians, trombonist Dave Steinmeyer, former lead player and director of the renowned Air Force big band, the Airmen of Note, and multi-instrumentalist Bill Prince, on clarinet and trumpet. The always grooving rhythm section features Ernie Ealum on bass and Eric Mason or Jeremy Smith on drums. JB Scott’s Swingin’ AllStars has a broad, versatile repertoire that includes tributes to the ‘classics’ from the 1920’s to the mid-1940’s and well-penned original songs; from the style of Louis Armstrong’s Allstars, New Orleans Traditional, Chicago Style, and even a bit of Big Band Swing, with influences that include Louis Armstrong, Clark Terry, Ruby Braff, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Lee Wiley, Peggy Lee, Eddie Condon, Trummy Young, and Kenny Davern. To quote Bill Harding, a long-time fan and follower of the group, “JB Scott’s Swingin’ Allstars is a real wealth of experienced, creative musicianship in one fantastically entertaining group!” “Her Ella” like scat is really impressive. His versatile style enables him to swing like crazy. This is a highly entertaining exciting band that – on the evidence of this CD “Just Swingin’!”, can please a wide variety of audiences.
Fan favorite, Junco Royals, returns to Friday Musicale! They are a traditional jazz band located in Jacksonville Florida. The members of the group come from various musical backgrounds and work to bring a creative interpretation to American Traditional Jazz. Inspired to partake in the genre’s revival, The Junco Royals dig up some of the more obscure tunes from the early 20th century to produce a listening experience that feels fresh, timeless and quintessentially American.
