Dreamboat Presents: Alexa Doran w/ Michelle Lizet Flores, Anna Claire Hodge, & Tiffany Melanson

Please join us for the inaugural event of the Dreamboat Reading Series, a UNF-sponsored event series that combines poetry and music performances at the historic Friday Musicale back cottage for the enjoyment of the local Jacksonville community. The Dreamboat Reading Series is co-organized by poets / editors / educators Dorsey Craft and Jessica Q. Stark.
This month we’re thrilled to be featuring visiting poet Alexa Doran as well as local Jacksonville poets Michelle Lizet Flores, Anna Claire Hodge, and Tiffany Melanson.
Poetry performances will be followed by a short musical performance by a local jazz trio and a book signing.

POETRY
ALEXA DORAN recently completed her PhD in Poetry at Florida State University. Her full-length collection DM Me, Mother Darling won the 2020 May Sarton New Hampshire Poetry Prize and was published in April 2021 (Bauhan). She is also the author of the chapbook Nightsink, Faucet Me a Lullaby (Bottlecap Press 2019). You can look for work from Doran in recent or upcoming issues of Pleiades, Witness, pidgeonholes, NELLE, and Gigantic Sequins, among others. MICHELLE LIZET FLORES is a graduate of FSU and NYU creative writing programs. She currently works as a teacher and co-hosts the What’s in a Verse Poetry Open Mic in Jacksonville, FL. She has previously been published in magazines and journals such as The Miami Rail, Chircú Journal, and Travel Latina. A finalist for the Juan Felipe Herrera Award for Poetry, she is the author of the chapbooks Cuentos from the Swamp and Memoria, as well as the picture book, Carlito the Bat Learns to Trick or Treat. Her short fiction can be found in the forthcoming anthology, Places We Build in the Universe through Flowersong Press. Find out more at michellelizetflores.com.
ANNA CLAIRE HODGE is a writer and educator based in Jacksonville, FL. She holds a PhD in creative writing from Florida State University. Her work has appeared in numerous publications, including Prairie Schooner, Mid-American Review, Charleston Magazine, and Hayden’s Ferry Review. She has received scholarships to Sewanee Writers’ Conference, Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing, and Vermont Studio Center. Her work has been anthologized in Best New Poets 2013, It Was Written: Poems Inspired by Hip-Hop, and others.
TIFFANY MELANSON is a poet and arts educator. Her work has recently appeared in Cutleaf Journal, POETRY Magazine, and Compose Journal, among others. She has been named a Bennington Writing Seminars Teaching Fellow, a Peter Taylor Fellow at the Kenyon Writers Workshop and received a Tin House writing residency. In addition, she teaches poetry workshops at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts where she is also the faculty sponsor of the student journal, Élan, and co-director of the Douglas Anderson Writers’ Festival​.
MUSIC
Bassist Justin Archinihu leads a jazz trio featuring members of the UNF jazz department. His group performs regularly around Jacksonville, including at The Posting House and with John Lumpkin’s Jazz Discovery series. Keyboardist Evan Anderson is active as a composer of solo works and film scores, and a current student in the UNF jazz department.
