BIOGRAPHY

The MarNai duo made their debut in the fall of 2007 at the New York Performing Arts Library. Since then this duo comprised of Violinists Mariana Hill and Naira Cola has wowed audiences with their programs of traditional classical repertoire along with brilliant unconventional arrangements of Arias, Spirituals, Gospel, and other genres of popular tunes done with a classical touch. When describing the renditions of these Arias and Spirituals, critics stated, “They are performed so brilliantly by Hill and Underwood (Cola) that one does not miss the presence of singing voices.” Their mission is to bridge the gap between the known conventional form of violin duo with performing pieces of different genres that are known around the world on another level and yet have meaning for both of these artists.

Holding Violin Performance degrees from both the Juilliard School and the Mannes College of Music, this duo possesses a very distinctive style along with a diverse repertoire, bringing something very unique to the concert experience for every audience member while aiming to educate its listeners about the historic perspective within the community at large. The duo has primarily commissioned arrangements of music from a fellow violinist and composer, John LittleJohn. They have toured internationally and had the distinct honor of playing for President Obama.

The MarNai Duo has a vested interest in the education of youth in classical music, especially those who might be considered in the minority. They have served as educators in the Boston and New York communities for many years and currently co-produce a summer music program with the befitting name, Four Strings Academy. This program works to strengthen the classical roots within their communities at large serving approximately 50 students with a diverse faculty running a 2-4 week intensive during the summer months.
